Free BBQ Social Media Policy

Free BBQ is committed to offering free speech on our social media groups. Ideas and even complaints are most welcome when they specifically relate to bbq, and are communicated professionally. You will not be purged for expressing ideas that others don't agree with, we sincerely aim to foster an inclusive community. However the following rules do apply. Posts that conflict with these rules will be deleted, and depending on the severity of the post, you may be muted or given a 30 day timeout. Repeated disregard for this policy may result in a six month ban (maximum permitted). Due to spam issues we cannot proactively un-ban people, once this timeframe has expired please please contact an admin to arrange for your ban to be removed.

  1. Stay on topic. It's BBQ, not a political or religious soapbox.
  2. Excessive profanity will be deleted, and the judgement of "excessive" is at the whim of our moderators.
  3. Repetive garbage (eg. bad bbq memes) will be deleted.
  4. No personal attacks, adults can communicate without deliberately insulting others.
  5. One hashtag, and it's yours only, eg. #mybbqteamname. Because #nobody #likes #tag #spam
  6. Only personal accounts are permitted, company or team accounts are not.
  7. Commercial posting is permitted only in the scope of quality content, only one product/brand per post, and no, posting pictures of your product isn't quality content. For example:
Bad: Look at my knives, you should buy one.
Good: Picture of an epic sliced steak with your knife beside it.
Bad: Look at the smokers I build, you should buy one.
Good: Picture of an epic brisket coming out of one of your pits while it's rolling.
Bad: Look at the this rub shaker, you should buy one.
Good: Picture of an epic de-boned lamb shoulder with your rub shaker beside.
The decision of whether a commercial post qualifies as quality bbq content lays with our moderators and is not open to argument. If your post is deleted, try harder.
  8. Teams may celebrate their win with a post that tags all of their sponsors, but ONLY when they're celebrating a gc/rgc/first place in a Free BBQ competition within the last 7 days, only once per competition, and only once per team. This limited ability to give your sponsors a thankyou is part of your winnings. Second and third places do not qualify.
  9. We currently use Facebook polls to run votes. In the interests of stopping repetitive or biased votes, votes must be initiated by an admin. Any poll that claims to be a vote will be deleted.

Our social media policy may be instantly amended at our discretion to deal with someone being a goose. Don't be that goose.
